This study was performed to investigate the effects of pH on the degranulation of mesenteric and peritoneal mast cells induced by compound 48/80 in vivo and in vitro, and to determine the optimal dosage of compound 48/80 for the mast cell degranulation in various pH. Results were as following 1. In vivo study using mesenteric mast cells : the effect of compound 48/80 ( lpg/ml) on mast cells was markedly increased in pH 7.8. 2 . In vitro study using peritoneal mast cells : the onset time :)f degranulation of mast cell induced by compound 48/80(0.33l1g/ml) was shorter in pH 7. 2 :.nd 7.8 than those in pH 5. 5, 6. 4 and 8. 5. Above results suggested that response of mast cell to compourd 48/80 was rapidly degranula¡©ted in pH 7.2 and pH 7.8.
